Join us on this discovery of the unique animals and agriculture in northern San Diego County.  First, an exclusive visit to a wild animal preserve that is not open to the general public.  It cares for more than 150 exotic animals that came here from other educational facilities, were confiscated as illegal pets, or are non-releasable native wildlife.  Animals from this preserve have appeared on The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, Today and Ellen. Animal trainers will "tame" your curiosity with an interactive program that will introduce you to a few of the animals.

We'll then discover Bates Nut Farm, located in a picturesque oak filled valley near Valley Center. For more than 80 years, Bates has been a reminder of simpler times and childhood farm memories. Farm antiques and tools line the walls of the store. Fresh, delicious pistachios, pecans, cashews, peanuts, pignolias and other culinary delights are available for purchase. The old-fashioned candy counter is over 25 feet long and filled with truffles, mammoth turtles, a variety of chocolates and homemade fudge.  Enjoy a visit to the roasting room, a hayride and a bag of corn to feed the animals.  Then indulge your taste buds with an included lunch amongst the farm's pleasant country setting.

Next up, on a farmer-guided walking tour at a persimmon farm, you'll learn what's involved to grow the exotic Fuyu persimmon. Pucker your lips as you sample the crisp, sweet bright orange fruit, then take time to pick and purchase your own from the daily harvest!

Suggested: walking shoes as there is considerable walking and uneven surfaces on these working farms.

Fee: $99.00
