MATERIAL LIST - Revised 3/7/16 Please bring to class the following materials. If you have questions about the materials list call the instructor, Kathy Metz at (323) 251-7205 1 single sheet of Watercolor paper "Aqvarelle Arches" [140 lb cold-pressed paper, loose sheets, 22" x 30". For class purposes, we will cut sheets in 4, 8, and 16 pieces]. Drawing board or small masonite board 13" X 17" 1 sketch pad with graphite penciles [HB and 6B] 1 kneaded gum eraser 1 jar [for water] 1 small sponge (synthetic) or package of wedge-shaped makeup sponges 1 water spray mist bottle Tissues and paper towels Masking tape 1 white sturdy plastic palette (with large flat mixing area in center) BRUSHES #12 round natural or synthetic sable (large) #3 script-natural or synthetic sable 1" flat brush natural or synthetic sable Note: to protect your brushes while traveling, it's a good idea to wrap them in a bamboo placemat. SUGGESTED PALETTE: Alizarin crimson, permanent rose, winsor red, cadmium orange, aurelian and gamboge yellow, raw sienna, burnt umber, burnt sienna, hooker green (dark), ultramine blue, cobalt blue, permanent blue and prussian blue. Suggested brands: Winsor newton, Cotman, Aquarelle, Gumbacher, Vao Gogh (note: tube water colors are best) Bring an old shirt or paint smock.

Explore the delicate beauty of watercolors in this beginner's class. You will learn the fundamental elements essential for strong drawing and painting, along with color harmonies, light and shading, as you create paintings through exploration of still life sets and your own original ideas. Demonstrations and critiques will be provided by the instructor in a supportive and constructive environment. Whether you’re on a weekend outing or painting in your home, you will easily be able to incorporate these skills.  A $5 material fee is payable to the instructor in class. Kathy Metz is a gifted artist, a graduate of the Hollywood Art Center, and recipient of the prestigious “Society of Arts & Letters” award for painting. Please bring to class the following materials. 2 single sheets of Watercolor paper "Aqvarelle Arches"
